Music: Referencing

Subject guide for Music provided by the University of Sheffield Library

Referencing is the literacy which enables you to acknowledge the work of others and use styles to create citations and bibliographies.

The referencing style you use will depend on which pathway you are on.

Use the APA style for modules in Composition, Music Technology, Music Psychology, and Music Industries.

The Chicago Manual of Style operates two different styles:

  • Use the CMS Notes and Bibliography style for modules in Musicology and Performance.
  • Use the CMS Author-Date style for modules in Ethnomusicology.
